Here are some amazing short films that I’d like to share with you.

“Ready or Not” by Mark Kuczewski

Ready or Not is a short thriller shot in various locations in London, England on a Canon 5DMKII. It is very well scripted and excellently shot, with many tense moments and a cool twist ending. You should really check this out!

“New York City” by Tom Davis

This another amazing DSLR short film, shot in various locations in New York. The night shots are especially breathtaking. I’m continually amazed at what these DSLRs can achieve, especially in low light.

“Regional Food Bank” – Food for Kids by christopher hunt

An emotional and inspirational short documentary on the child hunger crisis in Oklahoma, shot on the 5DMKII. The beautiful cinematography lends to the heart-wrenching story about children in Oklahoma who live in such poverty that they depend on school lunches just to get a single daily meal.

As part of my documentary filmmaking course, we had to create a “visual essay”, a video document of an area. I chose to do my local farm, called Riverdale Farm. This film was shot with a Canon XH-A1 and a Letus35 Extreme using a Carl Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 lens and a Nikon 28mm f/2.8 lens.

Now, for another pair of awesome short films I’ve come across!

The diabolic invention of Doctor S. by Gianluca Sportelli

An strange, slightly morbid and oddly absorbing short film shot on, well, film, about the accidental invention of the electric chair.

Anderswo by drunkenflowers

An artistic and very impressive short film, especially considering that it’s shot on the Nikon D90, in the lower end of the video-DSLR spectrum.

Now, for another Video Watch. Here are a couple great short films to take a gander at.

The Raven directed by Ricardo de Montreuli

The Raven is a very impressive science fiction short film, shot on RED cameras for a budget of only $5,000. With a backstory and special effects this impressive, let’s hope they get a feature film deal!

Our Park by HypebeastTV

A short documentary on the repercussions of Nike’s purchase of a public park in Tokyo. I for one am shocked at the prospect of a major corporation having the ability to purchase a public space and turn it into a giant advertising venue.
